The School . . .
The Massage Institute of Cleveland, formerly known as the
East Tennessee School of Massage Therapy, was founded in
1997. The school was so successful that it outgrew its
original location and relocated to its present location at
2245 Chambliss Avenue in Cleveland, TN. The school is
conveniently located about 1.5 miles off of
I-75 at Exit 25.
Michael and Gail Sandberg are the owners of the Massage
Institute of Cleveland. Michael's father, Alvin M. Sandberg,
Doctor of Pharmacology and
a nationally known author and authority on pharmaceutical
use, also assists in operating the Institute.
After moving from New England to Tennessee, Michael became a
licensed massage therapist under the guidance and training
of his mother, Sandra K. Sandberg, the former owner of East
Tennessee School of Massage Therapy. She graduated many
excellent students, one of whom was Michael's eldest
daughter, Carrie, making her a third generation massage
therapist in the Sandberg family. Michael's step-daughter,
Heather, and wife, Gail, are also experienced and licensed massage
therapists. |

The
Mission . . .
The Massage Institute of Cleveland is a special purpose
institution. The purpose is to help each student learn a
strong base of professional knowledge, skills, business
practices, and ethical considerations in the profession of
Massage Therapy so they can become eligible to take the
National exam for Massage Therapy in the State of Tennessee
and be a credit to the profession. This purpose does not
include preparing students for further college study.
Students should be aware that transfer is solely up to the
receiving institution. Any student interested in
transferring credit hours should check with the receiving
institution directly to determine to what extent, if any,
credit hours can be transferred.
